Faye Wilder's debut album "Burn after Listening" finally released on November 21st, 2023. Many friends & family members had been anticipating the start of her music career & made kind comments on her album of love songs, but many wonder what it's really about. So, I asked her.
In Faye's words, "This twelve track album was inspired by a decade & a half of stupid fucking feelings.". She couldn't have put it more beautifully. Through her college life experiences, city life & many other journeys she went on in her early adult years, Faye found her own feelings deep within herself many times with many different beautiful souls & channelled them into works of art. Her most popular track "Blame it on the Bipolar" describes well trying to understand someone you love's feelings as well as your own. A favourite of many, "Hinting", the third track on the album will put you in the shoes of a cook fawning over a waitress, whereas her sixth track "Walking up Saint Street" will send you straight to Montreal.
As much as Burn after Listening is a love album, her eleventh track "Common Claims" will beg to differ. Feeling jaded against love & romance from past mistakes & relationships could never relate more to most, if not all of us. Thankfully, her last track sheds a little bit of hope for us all & herself. "Separate Misery" brings back the spark of a flame with its uppity beat & risque lyrics.
So, what do you think of Burn after Listening? Will it shine the light for an underground artist? Let us know your thoughts!
